Heavy barium, also known as barite powder or natural barium powder. It is made by washing, grinding, drying and other processes after people select natural barium sulfate ore (baryte). It has many impurities and its quality is mainly determined by the ore itself, but it is cheap and is usually used as a filler in the production of white pigments or low-grade coatings, plastics, and ink industries.

Barium Sulfate

One of the main applications of barium sulfate is in the medical field. It is frequently used as a contrast agent in X-ray imaging, particularly for examinations of the gastrointestinal tract. When swallowed, barium sulfate coats the esophagus, stomach, and intestines, making them visible on X-ray images. This helps doctors diagnose conditions such as ulcers, tumors, and blockages. Barium sulfate is preferred for this purpose due to its low solubility and non-toxic nature.

Barium sulfate is also a raw material for the manufacture of other barium salts. It can be used in powder coatings, paints, ship primers, military equipment paints, automotive paints, latex paints, interior and exterior wall architectural coatings, etc., which can improve the light resistance of products. Weather resistance, chemical and electrochemical corrosion resistance, improve the decorative effect of products, and improve the impact resistance of coatings. Barium sulfate is used in the inorganic industry to produce other barium salts, such as barium hydroxide, barium carbonate, barium chloride salts and other raw materials for wood products processing wood grain printing boards, as primer and paint preparation barium sulfate. Barium sulfate is used as an organic synthetic raw material and is used as a raw material for green pigments and color lakes.

Barium sulfate is divided into two types, one is made by grinding recrystallized stone powder, and the other is chemically synthesized precipitated barium sulfate. Because the production equipment of precipitated barium sulfate is complicated, in the process of pickling and washing. Medium and high pollution resources and wastewater discharge seriously affect the environment. The state's production policy on precipitated barium sulfate has been tightened year by year, especially during this year's "environmental impact assessment storm", a batch of products have been eliminated. In nature, barium sulfate is also called barite, which is a natural ore, generally in the shape of a forked crystal block. Barite has no direct harm to the human body and can be directly contacted.

The precipitated barium sulfate used to prepare high-gloss PP. The precipitated barium sulfate is prepared by chemical methods, and the purity of barium sulfate is extremely high, generally reaching more than 98%. There are two main processes for preparing barium sulfate by sedimentation. One is to calcine and reduce barite with coal powder, and then add sodium sulfate solution to react, and the other is to react natural barium carbonate with sulfuric acid. These processing methods are relatively common in my country.

Barium sulfate is widely used in life, industry and medical fields. It is often used as a filler or raw material for paints, inks, plastics, advertising pigments, cosmetics, batteries, and rubber products.
